Next Step Program

You've gained a lifetime of experience. Now is the time to put your skills and talents to good use by volunteering with AAMAN. Register at the bottom of the page.

AAMAN offers a full range of volunteer opportunities within four states: Long Beach-California, Ypsilanti-Michigan, Winona-Minnesota,  and La Crosse-Wisconsin.  With AAMAN, you choose how and where you want to serve. You choose the amount of time you want to give. And you choose whether you want to draw on your skills or develop new ones. In short, you find the opportunity that's right for you. AAMAN provides pre-service orientation and training.

Our Clara Fields Multicultural Literacy Program provides an opportunity for volunteers share their time, experiences and love to help pre-kindergarten to 2nd grade children achieve academic success.  Our goal is to create prolific readers by the time they enter kindergarten.

Our literacy program serve children with exceptional or special needs by tutoring, supporting teachers in classrooms, giving constructive guidance and providing small group or one-on-one assistance. Volunteers can serve an average of 1 to 2 hours per-session, per-day, Monday through Friday.

Our program will give attention to the early intervention of preschoolers because statistics show that children develop much of their capacity for learning in the first three years of life. Each child will learn all the components of reading from phonics to vocabulary. By also expanding their background knowledge, their resources to speak and write well will also increase. For the K-2nd graders who may have missed a good literacy foundation, we will work with them to improve their literacy skills, giving them a better academic chance for success.

River Valley Cross-cultural Adoption Support Group was founded on February 21, 2009 and their first formal meeting was on March 14, 2009. At this March meeting the Chair, Kate Errthum and Co-chair, Jennifer Rotering was selected from the three family members and the next meeting was scheduled for April 18, 2009.

It was a pleasure to meet Mr. and Mrs. Andy and Jennifer Rotering & sons  Jordan and Kaiden; Mr. and Mrs. Eric and Kate Errthum & son Gedion, and Mr. and Mrs. Erika  and Jesse Emerick and son Samuel.  We need Volunteers to work with us for recruiting and joining us at our Annual Retreat. Visit the website and read their story.

The Next Step Program-NSP is not your typical after school program. NSP serves 10th, 11th and 12th grade U.S. Students. NSP is a ten-week program with three-sessions that meet once per-week on each Wednesday.

The student's unique learning environment is set on 43 acres of wooded land and housed in a 150-year-old refurbished and expanded log cabin, lovingly called "The Tarantula Arms". The Tarantula Arms is located in Houston County near Rushford, Minnesota. The facility is being provided by local Historian, Lecturer, and AAMAN Foundation Member, Donna Buckbee.  We need Volunteers to provide transportation, school visitations for recruiting students and general assistance.

Camp AAMAN-Summer is the greatest unsupervised time for many children. Statistics show that idle time is when most children are tempted to get into trouble.  To address those concerns AAMAN created a  Summer Camp for these at-risk youth. "Camp AAMAN" will provide a safe environment for  children of families at or below the poverty level to attend a Summer Camp. Without Camp AAMAN, most, if not all, of these at-risk youth would not be able to attend a Summer Camp. All children are welcomed.

Our activities included a Natural Rain-fed Pond, Hiking, Arts & Crafts, Sports, learning Spanish and our Literacy Program. Campers also enjoy going go on field trips and On-Site programs such the Native-American Drummers; Singers and Dancers, Camp Fires, Nature Walks, Owl calling, Farm Animals and more!. Camp AAMAN is listed with Summer Daycamps.com and My Summer Camps.com. Camp AAMAN's Site is located on 43 Acres in Houston County, lovingly called, The Tarantula Arms! We need Volunteer Camp Counselors and Camp Assistances. We also offer paid positions for: Camp Director, Arts & Crafts Instructor, Drivers, Teachers, Spanish Teachers, Teacher Assistances, Athletics Director and Security.  Visit Camp AAMAN Employment Opportunities for details and registration.

When you volunteer, you're not just helping others--you're helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. In addition, studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
